Creekside Cottage and Creekside Place are assisted living homes specializing in care for residents with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and dementia. We strive to provide excellent care in a personal homelike setting vs. larger scale assisted living facilities and memory care units.

We have two sister homes side by side, Creekside Cottage and Creekside Place, with 6 residents each. Meals are home cooked with local farm sourcing when possible and promote a healthy and nourishing diet. Some activities and therapies we currently include are: art, music, restorative walking in our beautiful garden as well as around the neighborhood (with chaperones, for our more able residents), daily exercise programs focused on promoting muscle use and mobility, word games, and book club.

Until there is a viable treatment for Alzheimer’s and dementia, there is the comfort of skilled caregiving for loved ones living with cognitive change. We are dedicated to that pursuit and welcome you to explore our services and resources.

About Creekside Cottage & Creekside Place

The Sturgeon family created Creekside Cottage and Creekside Place with founding values that support a compassionate community. Since 2011, we have strived to develop our caregiving techniques, to establish and support the super stars that make up our team, and to grow as a respectful and kind community.  Our two elder care homes, nestled side by side along the Washington Creek in Petaluma, are thriving and peaceful facilities licensed for 6 residents each, with a focus on Alzheimer’s and dementia care, hospice and respite care.

We have supported many families on their journey with the care of a loved one, and know how difficult it is to make the decision to place in a licensed facility. Our families continue to be the key to quality of life for our residents after placement.  Clear and regular communication between family, primary care physicians, and our team is also key.  Our proactive approach to communication about the health and needs of our elders reduces stress for all and promotes wellbeing.

Care & Services

Staffing Philosophy

Our caregiving team is trained with the excellent Positive Approach to Care program developed by Occupational Therapist Teepa Snow.  The PAC program develops caregiver skills and knowledge to better understand the changes a loved one is experiencing with Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, Parkinson’s and other conditions that affect cognition. Our goals are to partner with each resident in their individual plan of care, and maintain dignity and compassion throughout the progression of those conditions.

Hospice Care

We develop individualized plans and approaches to care for our residents in need of palliative or hospice services, and are proud to work collaboratively with the amazing hospice agencies in our area. Since 2011, we have been honored to care for our residents with compassionate team work for all involved, including family members grappling with end of life needs and concerns.

Hospice care often needs to have a structured dependability for comfort, and also flexibility to meet the changing needs of a loved one.  Our hospice plans of care include special diets, pain management, emotional support, and holistic approaches such as aroma therapy, music and gentle massage.

Dementia Care

According to the National Institute on Health, 1 in 7 Americans aged 71 and older have some type of dementia. The primary cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s — a neurological breakdown in the brain, causing neurons to die. The second leading cause is vascular dementia, where blood flow is diminished or cut off, causing brain cells to die. Both conditions can be unpredictable in the way they progress. And yet, the brain can still be incredibly resourceful.  In tandem, we as caregivers can develop our own resourcefulness to meet their needs with dignity and compassion.

Wellbeing & Nutrition

We start with a love for food and prepare meals that are colorful, tasty and full of nutrition. Our menu features organic produce and provisions from Rusty Hinges Ranch CSA. We are excited each time we get these amazing farm bundles and now include our caregiving team in a monthly farm bundle program.  Check out the gorgeous bundles at: Rusty Hinges Ranch.

Every day cooking can be inspired and healing with creative flavoring and preparation. We are inspired by the seasons and feature delicious fall soups, hearty winter casseroles, spring pasta dishes and summer smoothies.

Sapphires Support Group

Kelly Sturgeon invites you to join the Sapphires Support Group on the 4th Wednesday of the month, 6pm to 7:15pm to share experiences and insights as we care for loved ones living with brain change (aka dementia). The Sapphires Support Group provides a thoughtful and meaningful space to express challenges as care needs change, and we offer resources to help you meet those challenges with love and skill. We currently meet via Zoom video and are open to meeting in person.

You can RSVP to kellysturgeon@rocketmail.com
